No Country Dominates '08 Oscars

No Country for Old Men won 4 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director for Ethan & Joel Coen, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Screenplay. No Country for Old Men was favored to win the top prize on Oscar night although it lost both the Golden Globe and BAFTA awards for Best Picture to fellow nominee Atonement. It was the most awarded film of the night followed closely by The Bourne Ultimatum which won 3 of the technical awards.

Daniel Day Lewis continued his winning streak picking up the Best Actor prize for his role as Daniel Plainview in There Will Be Blood. A suprise win for French actress Marion Cotillard in the Best Actress category was the night's biggest upset. Heavily favored Julie Christie lost the Oscar to Cotillard who portrayed Edith Piaf in the French film La Vie en Rose.

Much like the lead acting categories, the supporting categories showed a much expected win by Javier Bardem in the Best Supporting Actor category for his performance as Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men. The Best Supporting Actress category was the most unpredictable of the night with Cate Blanchet winning the Golden Globe, Ruby Dee winning the SAG, and Amy Ryan winning many of the early critic's awards. Tilda Swinton was a suprise win for her role as Karen Crowder in Michael Clayton.
